Our beloved "Pops" - father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer at his Northern Nevada home on September 30, 2009. He was 75.
Jay was born in San Francisco in 1934 to Joseph and Irene Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph "Jock" Miller. He and his wife Petie were married in 1955. They moved to Southern California in 1960 where they raised their family. The couple divorced in 1979.
He served in the Naval Reserve in the 1950s and worked for more than 35 years in San Francisco and Los Angeles as an insurance broker, primarily for the construction industry. He retired in 1992 and moved to Carson City to enjoy playing golf, reading mystery novels and engaging others in political and sports debates. One of Jay's greatest pleasures was spending time with his family at their Lake Tahoe home, where he was always up to the challenge of a good game of dominos, poker, baseball and games with his grandkids or a simple walk to the beach or the pier.
Jay is survived by a sister, three brothers, two sons, two daughters, their spouses and four grandchildren. He was a private person who carried himself with class and dignity and will be remembered for his warm smile, loving eyes, gracious nature and his generous heart. He will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to know him. Per Jay's request, a private ceremony will be held on Saturday October 10, 2009. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada, 18653 Wedge Parkway; Reno, NV 89511; in the memory of Jay Miller.
