Authority set to sign off on redevelopment funds

The Carson City Board of Supervisors in its capacity as the Redevelopment Authority is scheduled to approve - without discussion on Thursday - funding for a number of projects within redevelopment districts.

Among the projects are:

• $40,000 of incentive funding for Doug and Jamesa Cramer (owners of Mom and Pop's Diner) to develop property, the Paradise Cove Cafe, on the outside of the Carson Mall on Stewart Street.

• $26,144 of incentive funding to Terrence and Lara Poor to refurbish property at 107 E. Telegraph St., the former Heiss' Steakhouse, for a bar, The Blue Bull.

• $12,000 from the revolving fund to support the annual Ghost Walk.

• $4,500 from the revolving fund to support the Silver & Snowflakes Holiday Tree Lighting.

The Redevelopment Authority also will consider $438,589 for the costs of the Nugget Development Project to satisfy the street abandonment settlement so that the Nugget can explore a master development project which will benefit the casino as well as the city.

Officials will reconvene as the board of supervisors to consider the following measures:

• Adopting an amendment to the city's animal ordinance regarding bears.

• Adopting an agreement between the National Association of County and City Officials and Carson City for the city to participate in a public health accreditation test. Carson City Health and Human Services is one of 30 health departments selected nationally to participate as a test site for accreditation. The project will be paid for with a $27,280 non-matching grant.

• Approving a Regional Gang Initiative grant in the amount of $350,000 to create a foundation for a collaborative response to gang activity within the adjoining tri-county area of Carson City, Lyon County and Douglas County.

• Amending the ordinance governing the issuance and regulation of liquor licenses to include among other things, mandatory employee alcohol training programs.

• Approving the funding for the Nugget's development project recommended by the redevelopment authority.

• Reviewing the Carson City Operations Scorecard and reporting measures and information affecting the 2009-10 business plan.

• Approving the standard quarterly summary for all active and pending grants made to the city.
