Busy season at Piper's

Piper's Opera House in Virginia City is the site of several events through October.

Saturday features an Evening of Wine, Beer & Friends, from 4-7 p.m. in Piper's Old Corner Bar. The event is a benefit for Piper's Corner Bar restoration. A complimentary wine glass is offered along with 15 assorted Sierra wines and 12 assorted beers. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and Squeek Steele will be at the piano. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Monday evenings through October, the Piper's Opera House Players present an evening dinner theater on the History of Virginia City, Abridged. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the play begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $35 for the dinner and play, or $15 for the play only. Special packages are available for hotel reservations, or bus transportation from Reno. Call for more information.

And the annual Nevada Statehood Governor's Ball returns at 7 p.m. Oct. 30. The Opera House extends a special invitation to the ladies and gentlemen of the 1860s. The event includes pastries, punch and coffee. Piper's Corner Bar will be open to purchase "real drinks." Live music will be performed by the Butterfield Victorian Orchestra. Victorian attire is requested. Evening attire is otherwise recommended but not required. Tickets are $20 per person. All proceeds will go directly to Piper's Opera House fundraising efforts.
