Silver Springs jail
a solid proposal
We have to build a jail in Silver Springs for Lyon County. It just makes sense. First, we waste more money in tax dollars when our police officers have to drive all the way out to Yerington. They are coming from areas like Dayton, Fernley, Silver Springs, Stagecoach and Silver City. It's not only the gas but the wear and tear on the vehicles.
Second, what about the time it takes an officer? When they leave their area to bring someone to the Yerington jail, and there is an emergency, it takes more time to get there.
There has been land donated in Silver Springs for them to build on, but instead, they spend more money to expand the Yerington jail. This facility is very run-down. There is not enough room to hold criminals from all these towns. This expansion is only a temporary fix. It still will not have enough room to hold all the inmates after expansion is complete.
If we build a jail in Silver Springs, it will bring more jobs to Lyon County. Silver Springs is growing and there are few jobs here. Also, it would bring more businesses to the area. There are pharmacies and medical facilities that have said they would accommodate the jail. The Village Market is also here for food supplies. It would be easier access for those who are visiting or bailing out inmates.
That is why we need a jail in Silver Springs.

Selecting between
the better of two evils
Recently a letter stated that we were sold a bill of goods by electing President Obama. A president cannot always be popular. The president is always abused. If he isn't, he isn't doing anything.
You can always amend a big plan, but you can never expand a little one. I don't believe in little plans. I believe in plans big enough to meet a situation which we can't possibly foresee now. I am glad we have a smart man in the White House - such a change.
America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. The Senate is the most un-American thing in America. Republicans can lie out of both sides of their mouths at the same time, and if they ever engage in telling the truth, they would lie just to keep their hand in.
You and I are stuck with the necessity of taking the worst of two evils or none at all. So, I'm taking the disorganized Democrats as the better of the two. The GOP is impossible.
