The Nevada Association of Hospital Auxiliaries and Volunteers State Convention convened in Carson City last week hosted by Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary. The theme of this year's convention was "Volunteerism, A Capital Idea."

A welcome reception was held Tuesday evening at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with Bill Welsh, CEO of Nevada Hospital Association and Ed Epperson, CEO of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, giving opening remarks.

Opening ceremonies Wednesday morning at the Carson Plaza Convention Center included Major Bob Crowell reading a proclamation naming Oct. 12-16 as Nevada Association of Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteer week. Ed Epperson, CEO of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center spoke on the challenges to hospitals. There were numerous other speakers and guests throughout the three-day convention.

The members of auxiliaries from all over the state of Nevada enjoyed two and a half days sharing ideas and building camaraderie with one another. These volunteers work continually on fundraisers to help with the purchase of equipment needed for our hospitals.

Tours were provided of the Capitol, Legislative and Supreme Court buildings, as well as a walking tour of the historical district of Carson City, an evening on the M.S. Dixie at Lake Tahoe and a tour of the Governor's Mansion. The convention concluded Thursday evening with dinner and installation of the 2009-2010 officers and a variety show at the Gold Dust West.

Delsye Mills, state president for 2008-2009 from our own Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary, as well as her executive board and committee members organized the convention.
