Many thanks to a knight in shining armor. On Sept. 24, my little sister and I were driving back from an afternoon trip from Lake Tahoe when all of a sudden, I heard a scary noise and pulled off Highway 50 to check the damage.
My front tire was completely flat and we were stranded in the middle of nowhere with no signs to tell my three different roadside service providers where to come pick us up.
After being rudely told by one provider here in Carson to find a mile marker, my sister and I started walking in different directions to find a roadmarker, but to no avail, so no roadside assistance.
Just when I was about to give up hope, a wonderful man named Raymond from Gardnerville stopped and completely changed my tire for me. If not for Raymond, we would have had to change the tire by ourselves with traffic rushing by.
So I want to say thank you a thousand times to our knight, Raymond. Thank you so much for your chivalry and kindness. It's a relief to know that there are still wonderful people out there, willing to lend a hand to two stranded girls.

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7 has had a great year. It just completed its annual Forget-Me-Not drive, and thanks to so many people, we met our goal even in these hard economic times as they realized that we need money to take care of our veterans.
First, I have to thank the generosity of the people in Carson City, Fallon, Gardnerville and Minden. I have to thank our many members, and our auxiliary members, along with nonmembers who spend two-and-a-half days at all the stores. A special thanks to the Reserve Officers Training Corps of Gardnerville who came out and helped us.
Of course, without the following stores, we could do nothing. They let us be at their doors with our little blue flowers and U.S. flags to offer them for donations: Smith's and Raley's in Carson City and Gardnerville; Walmart in Carson City and Gardnerville; Walmart in Carson City, Fallon and Douglas County; Scolaris in Gardnerville; Sak & Save and the Save-Mart stores in Carson City.
Once again, thank you to all the people and stores that made this such a great year.
