Ray Peternell, last year's winner of the Nevada Day Treasure Hunt, located the medallion at Riverview Park at the end of Fifth Street in Carson City this morning about 8 a.m.
With other hunters looking in the same general area, Peternell deciphered clue No. 12, and found the satchel staked to the ground in brush along the Carson River.
He bested searchers last year when, after 13 clues, he found the sack containing the treasure hidden behind a fire hydrant in Virginia City.
