The Nevada Division of Forestry is conducting three controlled burns today
in the Carson City area in an ongoing effort to reduce the risk of
wildfires.
Today the burns are in Little Valley and Hobart in the Washoe Valley and on
Spooner Summit in the Virginia City Highlands.
Mike Klug, the fire management officer for the Nevada Division of Forestry,
said the controlled burns are piles of brush and tree branches collected
over the summer.
There are about 1,000 piles scheduled to be burned this fall in Little
Valley and about 2,000 piles in Hobart, Klug said.
"There's a lot of limbs and brush piles that they're trying to get rid of,"
he said. "It's all a part of trying to reduce the fire danger."
There's another reported controlled burn on Mound House on Highway 50 East.
