(AP) - A proposed initiative that seeks to ban abortions in Nevada has been filed with the secretary of state's office.
A group called Personhood Nevada, led by Richard Ziser, filed the initiative paperwork on Wednesday.
The initiative would amend Nevada's constitution to extend due process rights to "everyone possessing a human genome."
Ziser, who led the successful gay marriage ban in Nevada earlier this decade, could not be reached for immediate comment.
Backers would need to gather 97,002 signatures to qualify for the 2010 general election ballot.
