The Carson City Board of Supervisors showed support for military service members and their families at its Oct. 15. The supervisors initiated a "Community Covenant" with the "Secretary of the Army." The Community Covenant "Supporting Those Who Serve" affirms, or re-affirms, a community's support for service members and their families. The covenant was signed by Carson City Mayor Robert L. Crowell and by Brig. Gen. William Burks of the Nevada National Guard, who represented the Secretary of the Army.
Representing General Burks at the presentation was Major Patricia Svare of the Nevada National Guard. The covenant presentation and signing was organized by American Legion Capitol Post 4 of Carson City. Commander of Post 4 Daryl Haines and John Warden from the Department of Nevada (also a member of Post 4) represented the American Legion and explained the purpose of the covenant and thanked all those present for supporting servicemembers and their families.
