The most exciting runaway ever seen happened on Carson Street yesterday. When a couple was crossing the tracks near the depot the horses made a lurch as if to get away. The man riding with the woman on the buckboard pulled the reins as if to control the ensuing melee. The crowd turned back on the street, with the horses giving the couple a fight for their lives. The team ran with mathematical precision, avoiding all other teams on the street until it reached Prison Road (Fifth Street), where it dumped the couple in the dust. The team continued to the open gates of the prison, where it smashed the buggy to pieces while entering the stable.

It has been called the "dust bowl," "desert bowl," and "silver bowl," but, in consideration of its intended use the appropriate name is "Nevada Bowl" for the place where the history of Nevada's first 75 years will be told. The "Nevada Bowl" is more than a sagebrush-covered slope from which a huge crowd will gather Oct. 31 during the 75th celebration of Nevada Day. The bowl is located at the end of an oiled road that leads from the southeast corner of the Catholic Cemetery to the bowl.
