The thought of a No. 2 seed and a home playoff game quickly vanished for the Dayton Dust Devils on Friday night as errors and an inconsistent offense lead them to a 19-13 loss at Lowry.
Dayton's defense held the Buckaroos to 13 offensive points, but quarterback Connor Conroy threw three interceptions in the game including one that was returned for a touchdown. Added to their woes, the Dust Devils had two fumbles and couldn't capitalize on four red-zone possessions in the second half.
The loss drops Dayton to 3-2 in the Northern 3A and 6-2 overall, while Lowry jumped ahead of it in league with a 3-2 record and the head-to-head tiebreaker. Dayton is looking at a possible four seed now, which would put it in Truckee to face a Wolverine team that easily dispatched the Dust Devils 55-6 two weeks ago.
"I've got a lot of work to do," Dayton coach Rick Walker said. "It's (the playoff seed) probably not what I wanted."
Statistics were not immediately available.
Dayton will play at Fernley (4-1, 5-3) on Thursday.
