Daylight-saving time ends this weekend.

Officially, the clocks change at 2 a.m. Sunday. Most people roll them back an hour before going to bed Saturday.

Nevada State Fire Marshal Jim Wright said as residents roll back their clocks one hour, it's a good time to also check the batteries in home smoke alarms.

He said if the smoke alarm is 10 or more years old or the homeowner doesn't know how old the alarm is, replace it.

He said those replacing or adding an alarm should consider installing a 10-year lithium battery powered smoke alarm.

"The initial investment pays off because batteries don't need to be replaced," Wright said.

He said it's important to check alarms because 83 percent of fire fatalities occur in people's homes and nearly two-thirds of those deaths are in homes without smoke alarms or with alarms which didn't function.
