130 YEARS AGO

A number of urchins under 10 years of age congregate nightly in front of the Appeal office, and the language they use even startles our local editor. We would suggest their guardians look after them, or they will grow up as useless hoodlums, and they are fairly on the road to it now. The youngest, not over seven years old, was heard expressing himself in a manner that would do credit to a full graduate of the Barbary coast.

100 YEARS AGO

Judge M.A. Murphy passed away this afternoon after a long lingering illness surrounded by his son, Frank Murphy of the V. and T. R. R. Company and Miss Martha, his daughter. A silent, sympathizing sorrow pervades this city and many kindly expressions of sympathy and love are heard in whispered words as the life of the old pioneer and history maker is told.

70 YEARS AGO

The oldest ex-governor, Roswell Keyes Colcord, who turned 100 April 25, passed away this morning. The late Mr. Colcord was the guest of honor at last year's admission day celebration. On his birthday, he received personal letters from most of the governors of the states including a message from Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was not only the oldest ex-governor, but was the oldest active member of the Masons.

50 YEARS AGO

The state prison board approved a change in the master plan to relocate the proposed license plate manufacturing building.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevada's 125th birthday bash kicks off Saturday night with a ball consisting of dancing in period costumes, a parade, carnival and art exhibits.

10 YEARS AGO

Transportation officials say Graves Lane will open by Nevada Day, but construction will continue through November.
