Carson High's boys soccer team got goals from Luis Camacho and Izzie Lopez en route to a 2-0 win over McQueen Wednesday night at Carson High School.
The match was Carson's first of the year, while McQueen had played several games in last weekend's Galena High tournament.
"Having not played in the Galena tournament it was what I expected it to be," said second-year head coach Nate Brigham. "We started out slow and sloppy. In the second half, we kept possession of the ball better."
Camacho scored on a direct free kick and Lopez scored his goal on a penalty shot after he was dragged down in the box.
Pedro Chavez and David Yanez shared time in goal, combining for six saves. Chavez played the bulk of the contest.
Brigham was pleased with his back line of Nate Eng, George Guevera, Luis Aguilar and Guillermo Alonso.
DOUGLAS 1, RENO 0
The Douglas Tigers opened the season with a victory over Reno at home. The only score of the game came in the fourth minute when Justin Draper banged one in on an assist from Edgar Arceo.
Douglas outshot Reno 13-9. Goalkeeper Ivan Gonzalez had six saves for Douglas.
Douglas coach Milko Vasquez added that the back four of Fernando Ramos, Brian Randall, Tyler Bankofier and Troy Cohee deserved credit for holding the Huskies scoreless.
Douglas next plays at Whittell on Tuesday.
