(AP) - The Nevada attorney general's office says the state is set to receive $2.5 million from the record $2.3 billion civil and criminal penalty that Pfizer Inc. is paying over unlawful prescription drug promotions.

Federal officials announced the settlement Wednesday. Justice Department officials say the overall settlement is the largest ever paid by a drug company for alleged violations of federal drug rules, and the $1.2 billion criminal fine is the largest ever in any U.S. criminal case. The total includes $1 billion in civil penalties and a $100 million criminal forfeiture.

A portion of the civil penalty will be distributed to 49 states and the District of Columbia, according to agreements with each state's Medicaid program.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto also says Nevada will get an additional $557,000 as part of a $33 million multistate settlement with Pfizer.
