Predictions for some northern Nevada high school football games this weekend . . .

CARSON 24, McQUEEN 23: Hey, why not? The Senators were very impressive a week ago in beating Spanish Springs. McQueen was ambushed by Peoria Centennial (Arizona) two weeks ago in the Sollenberger Classic and might still be licking its wounds. And, plus, the game is at Carson.

DOUGLAS 28, RENO 17: Both teams are 0-1 but Douglas' loss came at the hands of Las Vegas, which is no sin. Reno, though, lost at home to Galena. And, plus, this game is at Douglas.

GALENA 27, NORTH VALLEYS 14: Galena ripped Reno on the road a week ago. North Valleys survived Fallon. Grizzlies should win easily in home opener.

DAMONTE RANCH 30, ELKO 7: Elko lost its opener to Spring Creek and has struggled to remain competitive in the Northern 4A in recent years. Trips to the Reno area are never easy. Damonte is opening its season.

SPARKS 30, FALLON 17: Sparks, of the 3A, rolled over Wooster of the 4A a week ago while Fallon got beat by North Valleys. The Northern 3A only plays 4A teams it knows it can beat.

HUG 28, SOUTH TAHOE 12: Hug lost a close one in Utah a week ago. The trip to South Tahoe will be a lot shorter and a lot more fun.

SPRING CREEK 21, WOOSTER 20: Spring Creek would battle for a playoff spot in the Northern 4A more years than not if given the chance.

DAYTON 24, PERSHING COUNTY 7: Dayton whipped South Tahoe by two touchdowns last week. Pershing County got whipped by Lowry.
