On Sept. 26, the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum will participate in the fifth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian magazine.

Doors will be open free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian

.com visitors at museums and cultural institutions nationwide.

Last year, more than 200,000 people attended Museum Day, with all 50 states plus Puerto Rico represented by more than 900 participating museums, including 84 Smithsonian affiliate museums.

"We feel it is important to be involved with Museum Day because it is a united message that reminds the citizens of the United States of the enrichment and lifelong learning museums bring to our lives," said Barbara Mackey, executive director.
