Rockin' the Square 2009 kicks it up beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The free outdoor concert featuring Mumbo Gumbo on Telegraph and Curry streets is open to all ages.
Mumbo Gumbo has been rockinâa¬a¢ for 20-plus years, including the release of eight albums and countless gigs around their native Northern California.
They describe their music as a âa¬Å"blend many genres from rock to soul, afropop to lush balladry, zydeco to country all into a celebratory, danceable noise.âa¬ï¿1/2
In addition to the music, a New Orleans-style vendor experience from downtown Carson City businesses will provide authentic street cuisine.
âa¬Å"I canâa¬a¢t wait,âa¬ï¿1/2 says Carson Cityâa¬a¢s 30-year-old Tara Burke, âa¬Å"plus, Telegraph Square businesses are really adding to the Mumbo Gumbo experience. The musicâa¬a¢s energy keeps you happy for a week after a show and great food and drinks just top off the memory.âa¬ï¿1/2
Rockinâa¬a¢ the Squareâa¬a¢s four corners include downtownâa¬a¢s Bâa¬a¢Sghettis Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, The Carson Cigar Company, Mo & Sluggos Bar and Grill and Doppelgangers Brewery.
The Carson City Redevelopment Authority began downtownâa¬a¢s summer-long free outdoor concert series in June, with nine weeks of Fridayâa¬a¢s at Third. The Rockinâa¬a¢ the Square event concludes the 2009 season.
âa¬Å"Redevelopment really has done a great thing by improving infrastructure, staging, lighting, and mandating new event management protocols. This has definitely raised the standard for downtownâa¬a¢s outdoor music scene,âa¬ï¿1/2 said the Brewery Arts Centerâa¬a¢s executive director, John Procaccini, âa¬Å"quality event planning, programming and management creates a win-win for business and the City. Mumbo Gumbo will be a real kick!âa¬ï¿1/2
