Before the freeway opens to vehicles, people will have the chance to run, walk or bike on the stretch of road on Sept. 19.
The Nevada Department of Transportation with Fleet Feet Carson City is hosting the Carson City Freeway Bike/Run/Walk at 8 a.m. along the new section of Phase 2A of the freeway.
It will open to cars by Sept 25.
Muscle Powered will host a free bike safety check before the ride.
Runners interested in racing should meet at the freeway entrance near the Gold Dust West Casino. The event is free, and numbers will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Those interested in tracking their time will have to use their numbers to do so.
After the race, bicyclists and walkers will be allowed to explore the freeway until 11 a.m.
Bicyclists can also check out the new bike path that will connect Governors Field to the Mexican Ditch Trail.
However, portions of the path will close again after the event, to be opened again at the official opening of the freeway.
