The Carson City Shade Tree Council will host a free pruning workshop on Sunday at the Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City.
The workshop will start at 10 a.m. and is estimated to last about two hours.
The workshop will feature a tour of the grounds in addition to the workshop. Dave Ruf, owner of the Greenhouse Garden Center, will lead the tour and answer questions about tree planting and which trees are recommended for planting in Carson City.
The workshop will be held after the tour when proper pruning methods will be discussed. The staff of Healthy Trees will conduct the class.
The Shade Tree Council decided to hold the pruning workshop after council members noticed that many of Carson City's trees were being improperly pruned and in some cases, had been topped.
The council reminds homeowners in Carson City that any tree professional they hire to work on their trees must be licensed by Carson City and must have an ISA-certified arborist on staff. ISA is the International Society of Arboriculture.
