Temple Bat Yam, the only Jewish institution serving Lake Tahoe's south shore, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton, invites residents and visitors to observe the Jewish New Year and High Holy Days Sept. 18-Sept. 28.
The 10-day period, considered the most important of the Jewish year, begins with the observance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, from Friday to Sunday, and concludes with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, on Sunday, Sept. 28 and Monday, Sept. 29.
There will be a total of 15 services and events over the 10 days, some geared to young children others for adults.
Services and events will be held at three locations during the 10-day period, with most scheduled at the Temple Bat Yam building, 3260 Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe.
All services will be led by Rabbi Jonathan Freirich. He will be assisted during Rosh Hashanah by Rabbi David Pinkwasser, of Chandler, Ariz., and South Lake Tahoe, who will chant prayers and sing.
Guests also are welcome to join in the community "Break the Fast" at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28, which ends the 10-day High Holy Days observance, traditionally one of the largest, most fun temple events of the year.
