Tahoe Ridge Winery in Minden won gold, silver and bronze medals with its Nevada-grown and produced wines at the 2009 International Cold Climate Wine Competition in Minneapolis last month.
The winning wines will be sold through the Tahoe Ridge Pioneer Wine Club and its new marketplace and bistro opening this fall in Minden.
The winning wines:
• Gold medal: 2008 St. Croix, Buffalo Creek Vineyard
• Silver medal: 2008 Frontenac, Buffalo Creek Vineyard
• Bronze medal: 2008 La Crosse, Buffalo Creek Vineyard
Tahoe Ridge has won 19 medals at commercial wine competitions this year. The winery pioneered the development of the Nevada wine and grape growing industry in 1990, and is Nevada's largest and longest continually owned and operated wine and grape growing operation.
This year will mark Tahoe Ridge's 17th harvest of grapes from Nevada vineyards.
Tahoe Ridge Winery harvested the first commercial grapes from the Buffalo Creek Vineyard, owned and operated by David and Susan Semas, in Gardnerville in 2008.
Tahoe Ridge is the largest grower and producer of wine in Nevada, producing 150,000 bottles annually from both its Nevada and California vineyards.
