Nevada lawyer chosen for FERC

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Nevada lawyer has been chosen to serve as the general counsel for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff appointed Thom Sheets to the independent agency that regulates interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil.

Sheets is a partner at McDonald Carano Wilson LLP. He will take on the new position next month.

Sheets has been the chairman of the Nevada Tax Commission. He resigned that post when appointed to FERC.

He also is the former chairman of the Nevada Commission on Ethics.
