CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Thursday is the deadline for domestic partners in Nevada to pre-register if they want to guarantee they receive their partnership certificates on Oct. 1.

That's the day a new law passed by the 2009 Legislature takes effect. The law extends to cohabitating couples, whether gay or straight, similar rights to those held by married couples.

But couples must register with the secretary of state's office. There is a $50 fee and applications must be notarized.

Secretary of State Ross Miller says his office so far has received more than 400 declarations.
