The Truckee Republican says that "Truckee is preparing to teeder General Grant and his party suitable transportation to Donner and Tahoe, and the picturesque beauties of our summit land. The drive to Tahoe, and a trip around the lake in the "Niagara," the ride to Carson with Hank Monk. Hank is going to wear his Greeley hat, and is furbishing up some new jokes for Gen. Grant's private bar, and is confident that Grant will be the next President."

Young Lopez, a jockey, was on the race track and thrown clear over a horse's head ... turned a clear summersault [sic] and lighting squarely on his feet was uninjured.

Bob Hope and his wife, Dolores, adopted a baby girl in Hollywood from "The Cradle," the famous foundling home in Illinois where many film stars have adopted children.

50 YEARS AGO

Fashion show set: A fashion show was announced by Carson City Women's Club according to President Melissa Roventini. Committee members are Barbara Mighels, Pat Moran and Marian Perrin. They are coordinating the fashions from Cash Mercantile, Lariat Shop, Murdocks and the Scheri Shop.

20 YEARS AGO

Pat Haller, Carson City High School Principal has been named 1989 Secondary School Principal of the Year. The award is part of a national program sponsored by Burger King to recognize excellence in leadership.

10 YEARS AGO

Three girl Scout troops in the Walker River Service Unit earned a handful of merit badges at Sam Buckland Campground at Fort Churchill State Park.
