The female passenger in a Spooner Summit motorcycle accident Friday afternoon died later that night, officials said Saturday.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said the woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, succumbed to her injuries about 10:30 p.m. at Renown Regional Medical Center.

The accident happened about 2:12 p.m. Friday when the motorcyclist lost control of his bike about one mile east of the summit.

"For reasons unknown at this time, the male rider drove toward the right portion of the highway and struck the raised asphalt curbing near the edge of the roadway shoulder. The bike continued through a dirt area adjacent to the roadway and came to rest after hitting a dirt embankment," said Allen.

Both the man and woman, from California, were ejected.

The driver is in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Renown Regional Medical Center.
