GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ilya Bryzgalov made 27 saves and Martin Hanzal scored 15 seconds into the third period to help the Phoenix Coyotes beat the San Jose Sharks 2-0 Saturday night in preseason finale for both teamss.

Matthew Lombardi also scored for new Coyotes coach Dave Tippett, who took over for interim coach Ulf Samuelsson on Thursday following Wayne Gretzky's resignation.

Attendance at the game, the first home appearance for the Coyotes since it was announced earlier this week they would spend at least the 2009-10 season in Arizona, was better than the less than 2,000 at the preseason opener Sept. 15, but still will below the announced crowd of 6,483.

Hanzal opened the scoring when he took a pass from Petr Prucha off the opening faceoff of the third period and deflected a shot off the right shoulder of Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss. Lombardi made it 2-0 with 12:33 to go, taking a pass from Scottie Upshall and sliding the puck past Greiess' outstretched right skate.
