At an early hour Sunday morning Officer Duncan and Deputy Sheriff Powers made a raid on an opium den where some bad girls were smoking. The keeper would not open the door so the officers broke in. At the crash, all lights were extinguished to give the habitues a chance to escape.

Work has begun on the trolley line between Minden and Gardnerville and points south. The cold weather has delayed some spawn in Little Valley but Oldenburg is busy at work and is sending eggs to the hatchery in this city. An epidemic of colds and sore throats has struck the city and a great number are "under the weather."
70 YEARS AGO
Warden William Lewis of the prison and Wayne "Red" McLeoud, state surveyor general, left this morning for Pershing County, where they will hunt deer. Justice E. A. Ducker of the supreme court left today for his favorite hunting grounds in Humboldt County. The judge was accompanied by his son, District Attorney E. A. Ducker Jr., and wife.

Laws that will go into effect Oct. 1, include a law that prohibits smoking except in designated areas; a law lifting the ban on clove cigarettes; a "make my day" law that creates the presumption that a resident is justified in shooting, even killing someone who invaded his home to commit a burglary; and a law that allows courts to install locking devices on cars to prevent the car from starting when the driver is intoxicated.
