'Survivor' winner asks to finish sentence at home
BOSTON (AP) - "Survivor" winner Richard Hatch is appealing a judge's decision to keep him in a Massachusetts prison until the end of his sentence for tax evasion.
Hatch was convicted in 2006 of failing to pay taxes on his $1 million prize for winning the CBS reality show in its first season. He had been serving the final portion of his 51-month sentence in home confinement at his sister's house in Newport, R.I., when he was sent back to prison last month for giving unauthorized media interviews.
Last week, a federal judge denied his request to be released from the Barnstable County prison in Bourne and finish his sentence in home confinement.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts on Monday filed a notice of appeal asking the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case.
