Carson High's boys cross country team finished fourth in its division at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend.
Richard Shroy was fourth overall and the top non-Californian finisher. He was timed in the 5-k race in 16 minutes 10 seconds. Nick Schlager was seventh in 16:16, Brent Moyle was 16th in 16:47, David McMasters was 61st in 17:36 and Evan Richards was 84th in 17:54.
On the girls' side, Carson finished 12th in its division.
Katie McFarren was 17th overall in 19:59, eclipsing the 20-minute mark for the first time. Yvonne Hollett was 27th overall in 20:31, Amanda Gordon was 50th in 21:28, and Amber Karnofel finished 77th in 22:07.
CARSON GOLFERS 2ND
RENO - Sierra League golfers battled extreme windy condition at Rosewood Lakes in the next-to-last tourney of the regular season.
Bishop Manogue won with a 355, while Carson finished second at 397.
Carson coach Terry Gingell said coaches came very close to calling off the event because of the conditions. The coaches implemented an automatic two-putt rule on all greens to speed up play.
Katie Cowperthwaite led Carson with a 97 and Whitney Nash followed with a 99. Elayna Shine (100), Lindsay Burroughs (101), Katie Livermore (114) and Allison Vondrak (104) rounded out Carson's scoring.
GALENA SPIKES CARSON
Carson dropped to 1-4 in Sierra League play after dropping a 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21 and 13-15 decision to Galena Tuesday night.
Jeanette Vansickle led Carson with 15 kills and eigt blocks. Alyson Christl contributed 10 kills and 14 digs, while Angela Augusta had seven kills and a team-leading 21 digs. Brittany Wyatt finished with 18 digs. Meagan Nuckolls and Kendra Krupp led in assists with 19 and 17, respectively.
Galena won the freshman match 27-25 and 25-18, while Carson grabbed the JV match 25-17 and 25-11.
