After an arson fire on Christmas 2007 left Connected Church of the Nazarene homeless and dislocated several business, the church was able to move back into the renovated space a year later. However, the other businesses had moved on and the church has struggled to find renters for open warehouse space in the building located at 900 Mallory Way.
"Unfortunately, the economy went south at the same time as we needed businesses to rent," Senior Pastor Steve Walker said. "We needed to reduce our costs so we can continue to minister to the people of Carson City."
Connected's board announced last month that they will move their worship location nearby to 1851 S Roop St., at the corner of Roop and Fairview. It's in the same building as the Beauty Academy and directly behind Lowes.
During the month of April, church volunteers will move the church fixtures and be fully moved in May.
The new location is "much nicer, more visible and a lot more economical," Walker said.
What will happen to the Mallory Way building "is under negotiation," Walker said.
A soft opening is planned in the new location on April 11 with an outside barbecue as the inside will not yet be finished. A grand opening and dedication is planned in June..
