SPARKS - Carson's Alex Fallon leaped a personal best of 35-feet 8-inches to win the triple jump at the Reed Rotary Invitational Friday at Reed High School.

"That was the highlight of the night for us," Carson coach Robert Maw said. "She was behind 2 1/2 inches going into her last jump to a girl from McQueen. It was miserable conditions. She wanted to go get here and she popped off a 35-8."

Senior Luke Carter also performed well, finishing second in the 300 hurdles in 41.30. The Carson boys distance medley team - Nick Schlager, Logan Philippi, David McMasters and Richard Shroy - finished second to Sierra Lutheran, clocking a 11:13. McMasters ran a 2:02 split and Shroy a 4:30 for his 1,600.

The Carson girls - Amber Karnofel, Erika Sosa, Caroline Montiel and Katie McFarren - were second in their distance medley, clocking a 13:45. South Tahoe won the event.

"Katie was in fifth place when she got the baton," Maw said. "She made a move on the leader."

Gabe Pongasi recorded a personal record in the triple jump at 39-8, while Nata Hazard won the JV discuss with a throw of 125 feet. Kenzie Tillett won her heat in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Carson boys are in third place and the Carson girls are in fourth place with just a few finals in the books.
