Carson City's mentoring program, The Mentor Center of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is continuing its drive for 55 new mentors with two upcoming events in the community.
The first will be a new mentor training at 9 a.m. April 14 in the library of the new Boys & Girls Club. This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in working with a local youth for an hour a week to help them with academic, social and community activities.
Attending the meeting doesn't require commitment, and it will offer an opportunity to get information. The new drive is being funded through the Amachi grant, which is part of stimulus money.
On April 24, the Mentor Center will hold a community-wide "One Man's Treasure Hunt" in Carson City. This is a drive to collect needed items for Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
Mentors and mentees will go door to door from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. collecting gently used and new items. For a list of items needed, or if you would like us to stop by your house for pickup, please contact The Mentor Center at 445-3346 or e-mail Ruth Gordon at rgordon@wnc.edu.
