The Western Nevada College baseball team ran its Scenic West Athletic Conference win streak to 10 games with an easy doubleheader sweep over Eastern Utah on Friday.
The Wildcats won 13-2 and 28-2 and improved to 16-6 and 28-9 overall. Eastern Utah fell to 6-16 and 12-23 overall.
In game 1, Kramer Champlin earned the complete game victory giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five in five innings. Champlin had plenty of offense from his teammates.
Brooks Klein led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Eric Maupin was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jay Skilton was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI while scoring three runs.
Spencer Ofelt, Kyle Conwell, Pat McMeel, Jonathan Sigado all added RBIs and all scored at least one run. Kevin Taylor also scored.
In game two, Jake Waardenburg was the beneficiary of all the offense, pitching four innings allowing two runs, one earned. Kyle DiMartino pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out the side.
Offensively Sigado was 2-for-2 with a triple and a home run, scoring three times and driving in five runs.
Chris Sinclair chipped in with a 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and five runs scored. Maupin, Taylor and Ofelt all drove in two. Ofelt scored four times, Maupin twice and Taylor once. Skilton and Conwell both had an RBI. Skilton turned in a 3-for-3 performance scoring three times.
"We hit a lot of balls where they weren't playing today," WNC coach D.J. Whittemore said. "The hitters had a good approach today."
Whittemore said that Eastern Utah pitcher Josh Swenson, who beat WNC 6-3 in March, will start the first game of today's doubleheader. Swenson pitched five innings of three hit ball. The doubleheader is slated to start at 10 a.m. today.
