The Disabled American Veterans' third annual poker run Saturday, saw a healthy turnout, with 145 bikes, in spite of the economy and the unpredictable weather, organizers said.

Hosted by DAV Chapter 7 of Carson City and Chapter 7 of Reno, the event which ended with a party at Old Tyme Saloon at the bottom of Geiger Grade, raises money to provide buses to transport veterans to and from doctor appointments and the veterans hospital, and in support of Northern Nevada Wheelchair Program, which provides mobility devices at no cost to veterans..

"We're very happy with the turnout," said Fred Wagar, event coordinator and first junior vice commander.

"We received great community and business support," said Wayne Willson, past commander. "When it comes to our veterans, they really open up and give."
