The Carson City Chamber of Commerce is hosting two primary candidate forums this week.
The first will take place at
6 p.m. Monday at the Carson Nugget. The forum will feature candidates for two Carson City Board of Supervisors seats. Ward 1 primary candidates are: Karen Abowd, Rob Joiner, Sean Lehmann, Paul Saucedo, Gary Schulz and Norman Scoggin. And Ward 3 candidates are: John McKenna, Mark Sattler and Day Williams.
Western Nevada College Professor Robert Morin will serve as moderator and ask each candidate a series of three questions. The audience also will have the opportunity to weigh in.
The primary election is June 8 and voters will be asked to vote for two supervisors to replace the termed out seats of Robin Williamson, Ward 1 and Pete Livermore, Ward 3. These seats are non-partisan and voters will be asked to vote for two in each district to advance to the general.
The second forum will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, also at the Nugget. This forum will feature the candidates for Sheriff, the five Republican candidates for Assembly District seats 38 and 40. The Democratic candidates do not have primary opponents.
At the primary election voters will be asked to advance two of the three Sheriff's candidates to the general election in November.
The Assembly District 40 seat will be vacated by Bonnie Parnell and three Republicans (Amy Clemens, Peter Livermore and Lynda Upton) are vying for this partisan seat. One Republican must be chosen to run against the sole Democrat contender, Robin Williamson, in the general election. District 38 has two Republicans (Gary G. Gladwill and Tom Grady) vying for the seat to run against the Independent and the Democrat, who are running unopposed.
