LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal judge has ordered a former cocktail waitress who is suing Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
U.S. District Magistrate Peggy Leen ruled Tuesday that Chrissy Mazzeo must undergo the test because her attorney told a defense attorney that he was entitled to an independent exam.
Lawyers say Mazzeo said in depositions that she experienced paranoia and insomnia, and has experienced traumatic events in her life.
Mazzeo filed suit against the governor and law enforcement officials, alleging Gibbons orchestrated a cover-up after she accused him of grabbing her outside a bar in 2006.
Gibbons, a Republican congressman at the time, was campaigning for governor.
Gibbons' lawyer has called the claims against the governor "inflammatory and salacious."
A trial date has not been set in the case.
