At 10 years old, Kaden Dzwir is an unlikely harmonizer. But the home-schooled Indian Hills boy is the youngest member of the Chorus on the Comstock barbershop harmony group.
"It's very fun," Kaden said. "I really do like singing."
Mayor Bob Crowell will present a proclamation today recognizing this week as Barbershop Harmony Week.
Kaden's parents, Justin and Mercy, took him to his first barbershop chorus concert last year. At the concert, he asked how old you'd have to be to join.
He went to his first rehearsal and he was hooked.
"They were really welcoming to him," his mother said. "From then on, he's been a part of it."
She and his father attend every concert.
"It's a blast," she said. "It's a really good time."
Kaden, who sings the lead part in the harmony, said he's been singing almost all of his life and doesn't mind being the youngest member of the group.
"They're really happy for me," he said. "They're all very happy and energetic. And now, I'm one of them."
His favorite song, he said, is "The Old Song," which opens every show.
Singing isn't his only motivation for being in the group, however.
"I'm learning a lot of other things too," Kaden said. "I'm learning how to instruct and be a director."
The Wild Cards - a barbershop quartet from the Chorus of the Comstock, the Carson City Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society - will sing the national anthem at today's board of supervisors meeting.
Members of the Wild Cards are Dan Love, Dave Ramer, Ralph Quosig and Jim Crowley.
