How much did Haiti trip cost taxpayers?

Regarding the article on April 13 telling of the visit to Haiti by the wives of the president and vice president, one interesting and important piece of information is missing. What, if any, was the dollar cost of this trip to the American taxpayer?

Too many sick days, and he got the pink slip

Big corporate employers aren't fair. I was fired due to the fact that I maxed out on their point system. I told them, "Sorry, I couldn't stop Mother Nature."

I missed six days due to prostate cancer exams. I'm healthy. I missed other days due to standard illnesses. I missed a few days due to my son's diabetic problems, having to take him to hospital emergency room, and two of those times was by ambulance.

I did have about 10 one-minute tardies, one nine-minute and a three-minute tardy. I agree that the nine-minute tardy was late. But the one-minute tardies and the three-minute tardies? Give me a break.

Then, the day that they fired me, they waited until my shift was 15 minutes from being finished to fire me. In that time, I made them $100,000 to $150,000 in products. You know where their mind was at.

I've been unemployed since March and barely making it, with a family of four.

WNC baseball a great way to spend the day

Two years ago on a sunny Friday afternoon with some time on my hands, I wandered up to Western Nevada College to poke around and discovered the WNC Wildcats playing baseball. I stayed, I watched and for those of you who know me, I'm hooked.

What a beautiful field, the setting is magnificent and not to mention the baseball team. What a treat to have such talent playing here for our school. These young men know how to play baseball. I'm not a stats person, but just look at the WNC Athletics Web site and you'll see for yourself what I'm talking about.

I encourage everyone reading this to please come out, catch a game or two, or even four, have a hot dog, and support these athletes. They deserve it.

They will be home this Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, playing against Southern Nevada. You won't be disappointed, so please, let's fill the stands.
