Fenced dog park at Fuji a great idea
Yes, please allow our dogs a section, if not all of the park, to play. I live in Gardnerville and Fuji is the only place I can let my dog off leash to play with other dogs. It's also a good place for humans to socialize while watching their pets.

After illness, American dream slipped away
I think I am representative of much of middle America. I worked hard as a single parent to get a college degree, and I gave my all to my career for 35 years. During that time, I had employer-based health insurance and life was grand.
However, in 2007, I contracted a staph infection in my right elbow and the subsequent treatment sapped my strength and compromised my immune system. I could not return to work and was forced to quit my job.
Of course, I then had no health insurance, and it was much too costly to put me on my husband's employer-based insurance. After the bills, we just didn't have enough money for that. As a result, I have accumulated over $60,000 in health care expenses since I lost my insurance in 2007. This includes two hospitalizations for pneumonia.
There is no way, on one income, that we can pay these medical bills, so I imagine we will be filing bankruptcy very soon. We really have no choice if we don't want to be out on the streets.
The quality of life we enjoyed as two hard-working Americans seems like some kind of lost, distant dream. What happened?

A message for south Tahoe casino operators
I worked at the south lake casinos for six years. Their problem isn't that they have Indian casino competition. Their problem is that the casinos are very badly managed. Locals don't want to go there. Locals are people over 50 with disposable incomes - quite a few of us here.
The Tahoe casinos need to think about their available customer pool. We over-50s want a nice brunch where kids aren't knocking us down, a lovely place to get lunch. Most of us over-50s have a tough time driving in the dark.
We - my 89-year-old mother and I - don't go there anymore because of those reasons. We don't have big bucks, but we do have a couple of hundred bucks to drop in your slots a couple of times a month.
Look to the locals like Carson Valley does. Why are people able to drive to Reno and Vegas to spend money? It must be you.

Muth twists truth about Senate candidates
I was troubled by Chuck Muth's April 4 column. Wow, talk about calling the kettle black. I checked out the website that Mr. Muth referred to, and if I were him, I would be embarrassed. Unbelievable.
If anyone is adept at twisting words around and quoting statements out of context, it's Mr. Muth. Frankly, I'm surprised that the Nevada Appeal would publish a column without verifying the facts. Mr. Muth's column only proves to me that Sue Lowden's camp is really worried that the people of Nevada are going to realize that she is part of the same old longtime political establishment, and with Sue as our senator, it will be politics as usual.
Being a longtime member of the political establishment is not a feather in anyone's cap these days. I'd like to see someone like Danny Tarkanian get elected who is not part of the good-old-boys crowd. I've been to several meet-and-greets for Mr. Tarkanian, and I like his ideas for Nevada's future. When I ask him a question, I get a straight answer. I have never heard him attack an opponent on a personal level. Disagree on issues? Yes, but never a personal attack. Shame on you Mr. Muth.

Thank you for daily dose of inspiration
I thoroughly enjoy the inspirational quotes which appear daily in the Nevada Appeal. This is the first place I look after the headlines. I have clipped several to place on my refrigerator for motivation, etc. Whoever is in charge of them is doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

No experience? Don't run for supervisor
I regret not having the opportunity to ask the following questions during the forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, but I would appreciate it if each of the candidates for Board of Supervisors would post their answers on their websites so that the voters of Carson City can read their replies.
1. When was the last time that you attended, in person, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors?
2. When was the last time you appeared at the podium before the Carson City Board of Supervisors to speak in support of or argue against an issue being voted upon by the board?
3. When was the last time you presented and championed a new issue to the Carson City Board of Supervisors to its ultimate acceptance or defeat?
I am asking these questions because I feel it is ludicrous for individuals who do not regularly attend the Board of Supervisors meeting or who have never gotten involved in discussions on issues facing the board to all of a sudden feel that they are qualified to become a member of the Board of Supervisors.
No one should consider taking on a position as a city supervisor without having first-hand knowledge of how the board operates, the types of issues that the board is faced with and the amount of time required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Foundation supports Carson parks, recreation
In reading supervisor candidates' responses at the forum which was held recently, I would like to inform Mr. Lehmann and all, that there is a foundation for the Carson City parks. This was founded in 1985 and is an avenue for anyone wanting to support parks and recreation in the community.
This is a 501(c)3 tax exempt entity registered with the State of Nevada. Donations are accepted and dispersed according to donor wishes with the consent of the Parks Department.
Contact can be made through the Parks and Recreation Department's Roger Moellendorf or Scott Fahrenbruch or by contacting The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation, Inc.'s Fred Stanio, president, or Jo Saulisberry, vice president.
