The Carson High varsity softball team dropped two games at the Reed Tournament on Friday. The Senators fell 8-3 to Alhambra (Calif.) in the opener. Natalie Morrow took the loss pitching three innings giving up four runs on two hits. She walked five and struck out four.
Christina Gallegos came on in relief and pitched the final three innings giving up four runs.
Offensively, the Senators were led by Lisa Yamamoto who was 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Emily Collins and Lindsey Ashbaugh each added an RBI for Carson. Collins, Moriah Lane, Lauren Knorzer, Morgan Kleine, Mariah Hartley and Marissa Lucido all had hits for Carson.
The Senators battled in the second game before losing to McQueen, 8-7, in the last inning. The game was shortened to six innings because of the time limit.
Ashbaugh pitched the complete game allowing eight runs, six hits, four strikeouts and walk.
Lane led the way offensively with a single, a home run and two RBIs. Daria Leid had two hits and RBI; Kleine, Ashbaugh, Young and Collins all added hits. Young's being an RBI single.
The tournament continues today with a double elimination format. Carson plays West Valley at 8 a.m. followed by another game at 9:45 a.m.
VARSITY BASEBALL
YERINGTON DROPS TWO TO LOWRY
The Yerington baseball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Lowry on Friday. Yerington lost 2-1, and 12-0.
Lowry jumped out with two runs in the fifth off Lions starter Tommy Kinsey, who took the loss. Kinsey threw four innings allowing three hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out two. He gave way to Russell Lacey who threw three scoreless.
The Lions lone run came when Burke Bristol singled and scored on Jarrod Adams single.
Sergio Cruz, Cole Aiazzi, Adams and Michael Garner all had a hit. Bristol had two hits.
In the second game, Bristol took the loss giving up eight hits in 3.1 innings. He allowed six runs, three earned. Garner went the rest of the shortened game allowing six runs on three hits and four walks over 1.2 innings. He struck out two.
The Lions managed just three hits: Garner, Lacey and Tyler Peeples all singled.
