Ten track teams will converge on Carson High School today for the second annual Carson Capitol Classic.

Carson, Galena, Douglas, North Valleys, Rite of Passage, North Tahoe, Whittell, Incline, Sierra Lutheran and Tonopah comprise the field.

Field events will start at 8:30 a.m. with the first running event expected to start at 9 a.m.

"It should be a good meet," Carson coach Robert Maw said. "It will be the first time the whole team will be together."

Krista Baumgartner, who made state last year in the open 400, is back for the first time since suffering an injury at the BYU Invitational. Emily Field, who tore her medial collateral ligament skiing, also is expected to participate today.

"We'll run Krista in the 200 and 400," Maw said. "Hannah (Dudley) has stepped up in the 800 and 1,600 relays."

Maw said Dudley has replaced Haleigh Ward in both relay events. Ward is academically ineligible.

Alex Fallon, a triple jumper has enjoyed success thus far. She won the triple jump at the Reed Rotary meet with a 35-8 mark. She is currently four inches off the school record of 36 feet, and she hopes to break it this year. She is studying abroad next year and won't compete on the team.

Maw said that Fallon has changed her approach with positive results.

"In the triple jump, she was jumping off her strongest leg twice," Maw said. "Now we have her going off the weaker leg twice."

On the boys side, Carson boasts the best 1-2-3 pole vault group in the state in Eric Garcia (14-1), Cameron Childers (12-6) and Anthony Winder (12-0) and they will be shooting for a sweep today.

Luke Carter appears recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of Saturday's 110-meter hurdle final at the Reed Rotary meet in Sparks. The injury also forced him out of the long jump.

Maw has been pleased with the 1,600 relay group of David McMasters, Carter, Brandon Buonacorsi, Nick Schlager, Evan Richards and freshman Taylor Bradshaw. Richards, Buonacorsi, McMasters and Bradshaw have run a 3:38.50.

The Senators are perennially strong in the 3,200 relay and the distance medley relay, and the aforementioned group are the key participants.

Richard Shroy didn't run at Rocklin, and his status for today's event is unknown.

Carter and Evan Pearson give the Senators two solid long jumpers. Pearson has gone 20-9 1/2 this season and Carter has gone 20-6 3/4
