130 YEARS AGO

There was a meeting of the baseball players of Carson at the Curry engine house last night. About two dozen ball tossers were present. J.G. Chesley was elected President. A. Beam was elected First Vice President and George Bryson, Second Vice President. It was decided to call the club "Amity." Every member is expected to bring a half dollar.

100 YEARS AGO

When the Pittsfield express came from New York, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) was carried from his car by his secretary and butler and driven to his home. Mr. Clemens appeared to be weak, but sat up during the drive. Physicians said that while there was no immediate danger, he was seriously ill. (He died on April 21 of 1910 in Connecticut.)

70 YEARS AGO

William T. David was the guest speaker at the Carson City Rotary Club and entertained listeners with many early day happenings in Carson. David told about the founding of Carson City by Abe Curry who came to this place and started a town on his own after he refused to pay $1,000 on a lot in Genoa. The metal fence around the capitol grounds was awarded to a woman, Miss Hannah Clapp who supervised the job and also did some of the work.

50 YEARS AGO

The "C" on C hill overlooking Carson City received it's annual coating of whitewash today by the Block C Society at Carson High School. In the past, when seniors went to paint the C, the rest of the students had a general cleanup of the school followed by a school picnic.

20 YEARS AGO

The tax override proposal to renovate the historic V&T Railroad Shops and build a city complex on that property will go forward without any proposal for the sheriff's department. Sheriff Paul McGrath said he has decided not to be part of the tax override proposal because it would not provide adequate facilities.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson Imaging at Carson-Tahoe Hospital installs a new $2 million machine for magnetic resonance. The circular magnet is nine feet in diameter and weighs four tons.
