(AP) - A Republican U.S. Senate candidate has pushed Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons' fund over the top to help finance the state's suit against the federal health reform bill.

The Republican governor set up a "Constitutional Defense Fund" two week ago to pay filing fees after he appointed a private attorney to represent Nevada and join other states in suing the federal government.

Deputy chief of staff Stacy Woodbury says Chachas for Nevada donated $2,700 on Monday. John Chachas is one of 12 candidates seeking the GOP nomination in the June 8 primary.

Seventeen other donations totaling $1,125 were received.

The governor's office says any excess funds received above the $3,500 anticipated for fees will be returned if not needed.
