Albert Anthony Mendonca, 86, entered into rest on April 8, 2010, in Rancho Cordova, Calif., at the Mather Veterans Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1924, in Oakland Calif. He joins his wife Lillian in heaven as well as four brothers and sisters.
Mr. Mendonca is survived by his beloved children Ann Dubsky (Chuck), Denise Mendonca-Bryant, Patty Karpinski (Mark), Christine Mendonca-Reynolds, Albert J. Mendonca (Kelley), and Paul Mendonca (Julie). In addition Albert was blessed by 13 grandchildren: Jason, Jessica, Jennifer, Audrey, Kenneth, Kristin, Andrew, Megan, Myles, Brian, Russell, Chelsie, and Austin; one great-grandson Earl and soon to be blessed with another great-grandchild.
Albert served his country proudly through the United States Navy where he fought in WWII. He retired after 40 years as a farmer growing alfalfa and raising cattle in Fallon Nev. Albert and his wife moved from California to Fallon in 1969, where they raised their children and seven foster children. In 2003 he and his wife moved to Manteca, Calif., to retire and to be closer to family.
Albert was an extremely generous man, consistently supporting the Franciscans - Sicilian Monastery. He enjoyed sailing his boat, wood carving and oil painting. He loved music and was known to play the organ. Albert was a very intelligent man who had a wonderful sense of humor with a zest for life.
Mr. Mendonca's services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home of Manteca. A graveside service was held Monday April 19 at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon, Calif. An on-line guest book is available for condolences at www.plfryandson.com.
