A former Nevada health-care worker was sentenced to three years probation for Medicaid fraud, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said Tuesday.
Sally Saeli, 48, pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor failure to maintain adequate records. Carson City District Judge James Russell sentenced her to $5,093 in restitution and fines, and three years probation.
Saeli, a personal care aide, moved from Nevada to Arizona in 2006. Saeli continued to submit documentation to her Nevada employer indicating she performed services for a Medicaid recipient in Gardnerville.
"The continued prosecution of this type of crime is sending a message to the health care community that fraudulent activities involving Medicaid recipients will not go unpunished," said Masto in a news release.
The Nevada Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates and prosecutes financial fraud by those providing health care services to Medicaid patients. The unit also investigates and prosecutes elder abuse or neglect.
