"I love the gentle Spring,
With grass and flower
And all the birds that sing
From hour to hour."
An anonymous contributor sent a poem to this office on spring. There were several more verses which were sent to the chief of police, all in the same tone. He placed the verses in the hands of a detective and instructed him to ferret the matter to the bottom. The handwriting was unrecognizable, but the paper was traced to Cagwin and Allen's store. Mr. Allen recollected selling the paper to a man who acted furtively, as if he was about to commit a crime. The man was found and promptly locked up as a crowd gathered chanting "lynch him, lynch him." The man was sentenced to two years and sent off immediately.

There has been a good deal of confusion and misunderstanding as to the changed rules in baseball. They are summarized as follows: The coach's box has been altered to prevent him from getting closer than fifteen feet from first base. Umpires must watch the small points like ball color which have been a complaint of captains. The captain must notify the umpire of player changes and the umpire must announce them to the crowd.
