DETR: Unemployment benefits extended

While the first 26 weeks of unemployment benefits are the responsibility of the State of Nevada, the federal government funds all unemployment benefit extensions.

On April 15, President Obama signed a bill that extended the dates of these extended benefit programs to June 2.

The last date a new Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) claim can be established will be May 23 and additional funds (Tiers) will be added to your EUC claims up until June 2.

Individuals can continue filing their weekly EUC claims by telephone or over the Internet at www.expressclaim.org. The federal programs that are in place will be phased out beginning Saturday, Nov. 6.

While this was only a 58 day extension to the bill, this agency is hopeful that Congress will approve an extension of federally funded unemployment benefits soon that will extend the program through December 31. Among the specific benefit programs that are affected with this extension:

Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC)

Tier 1 - Maximum 20 weeks of benefits;

Tier 2 - Maximum 14 weeks of benefits;

Tier 3 - Maximum 13 weeks of benefits;

Tier 4 - Maximum 6 weeks of benefits.
