130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday morning Henry Wilson came down from Lake Bigler (Tahoe) with a rare specimen of that rare flower known as the snow plant (Sarcodes sanguinea). It has leaves like an artichoke spread out and thick like a cactus. The entire plant is of blood red color and the leaves covered with traces of frost work. Mr. Wilson has promised the plant to Governor Kinkead.

100 YEARS AGO

A mystery remains unsolved as to the disappearance of a man and a woman on the Humboldt River near White Plains. The horses were found drowned and remains of a camp included clothing. A check book was found with the name Harry Swarner to the Lyons Bank in Bishop with a balance of $1,380. It is possible the Humboldt will be dragged for the remains of the bodies.

70 YEARS AGO

George Roy, veteran V&T Blacksmith, was honored yesterday at his 92nd birthday party. Last night he was invited to the home of his neighbor, Millie Burlington where he was greeted by other neighbors and members of the choir of the Carson City Federated Community Church. Mr. Roy has been a member of the Carson City Methodist church's choir for 24 years.

50 YEARS AGO

The Daughters of the American Revolution voted today (in Washington, D.C.) in a heated debate to raise dues from $2 to $3 a year, even though it would force resignation of older members on a fixed income. The vote came after 11⁄2 hours of debate in an effort to solve the group's financial difficulties.

20 YEARS AGO

Mary and Carrie Dann, two Shoshone sisters, plan on fighting the Bureau of Land Management's plan to reduce grazing rights on the Dann's Crescent Valley Ranch South of Battle Mountain.

10 YEARS AGO

The Sheriff's Department is holding a teddy bear drive to be given by deputies to children to help them cope with the stress and upset of accidents, violent crime or separation from parents.
